Let’s clear up a common misconception about the Generac yellow light! If you see it on, don’t worry – it doesn’t mean there’s a problem. It simply means it’s been either 100 hours or 1 year since your generator’s last service. Time for a check-up!

Did you know that a majority of generators in the market require valve adjustments? These adjustments are critical for the longevity of your generator’s engine. Most manufacturers recommend having the valve adjustments done at the first 25-100 run hours.

However, there’s good news for some! Newer 13-18kw Generac generators do not require valve adjustments. Similarly, Kohler generators do not require them either, unless it is a 12kw or smaller model. These specific engines have hydraulic lifters that take up the “air gap” normally present in engines with solid lifters.

Remember, any engine with solid lifters needs valve adjustments to keep running smoothly! Stay tuned for more tech tips and keep your generators in top shape!

Did you know? Generators need maintenance, ESPECIALLY if you don’t lose power often. There’s a common misconception that if your generator hasn’t run for many hours, it doesn’t need maintenance.

Specifically, Generac generators’ weekly test doesn’t run long enough to “cook” the condensation out of the oil, causing the oil to mix with water from condensation and become milky. This can lead to premature engine failure.
